What is Discord?
Discord is a very popular and free-to-use voice, text, or video chatting app where you communicate with your friends or community in a very fun and interesting way. It can be used by an app or web browser on every device and platform, including Android, iOS, Windows, Linux, etc.
Originally Discord was created for gamers, that’s why you will find a very large number of gaming communities over there, but it has outgrown gaming, and many other communities like music, finance, art, and others can be found on Discord.
But how can you use Discord and communicate with your friends or any other community of your choice? Here’s how.
How to get into Discord
First, download Discord for your Android or iOS device, or use a web browser for your desktop or PC. You must create a unique username when you start Discord for the first time; you will also need to link your username to an email and password for login. Now you will be asked to Start a Server or to Join a Server.
Servers are the channels or communities which you want to join. Each server can have different users, rules, and permissions. Servers can be public or private, anyone can join a public server, but you need an invite to join a private server to communicate with your known ones.
How to use Discord
At first, you may find it very complex to use the Discord server. On the “Home” screen, you will find servers, users, friends lists, and other options. You will find an “Add Friend” button on the top of the screen that you can use to connect with people. On the right side, you will get a list of all the users and can see who is online and what they are doing.
You can join any server by tapping on the server name. You will be able to see all the chats of the server you select, and you can also share your thoughts on the server. You can use Text Channel to type messages or Voice Channel to connect through the voice chat feature.
Create your own Discord Server
If you don’t want to join any server and want to create a server to stay in touch with your friends, you can do it easily. Tap on the “+” button; it allows you to create a server by following the prompt, or you can directly select a predefined template for your server. You will have complete control over your Discord server. Now you can share the link of your server to invite your friends to join the server.
This was all the basics about the Discord server; now you know what it is and how to use it.
